Blog (0) Nic Lefebvre

The main reason I have chosen to take New Testament as Literature is because I recognize the unparalleled significance the Bible has had on human history, and I would like further my understanding of its impact and its creations from an intellectual perspective.
I was raised in a Christian home and attended Sunday School for about 5 years, but it has been over ten years since then, and I have retained very little of that experience. What I do remember is that I would ask questions to both my teachers and my mother when the information I was given seemed irrational. A specific example is when I was told that everybody who does not know Jesus is condemned to eternity in hell. I asked my mother, “What about the people in Africa, who don’t have the chance to learn about Jesus?” Critical questions such as this one were never given satisfactory answers, which eventually lead me to discontinue my church going. As I have become better educated, I have come to respect the impact of the Bible on humanity, and I have had in increased curiosity as to what exactly it is that makes up this book. The title of this class stood out to me as a great opportunity to learn about the New Testament from a critical, secular point of view.
